La Fondation Canon Europe offre chaque année des bourses de recherche pour les chercheurs européens et japonais, titulaires au minimum d'un doctorat ou un master dans n'importe quelle discipline, ayant obtenu leur diplôme en principe depuis moins de 10 ans et qui veulent faire de la recherche au Japon ou en Europe.

Durée du séjour : de 3 mois à 1 an (à partir du 1er janvier de l'année suivante de la candidature).
Montant de bourse : 22.500 ~ 27.500 euros/an.
Date limite annuelle du dépôt du dossier : 15 septembre.

For French future researchers.


  • Purpose: To provide opportunities to do cooperative research at a Japanese university or research institute.
  • Number of fellowships: 13 fellowships for France.
  • Duration of Program: 2 months between June and August (summer).
  • Eligibility:
    a. Be a citizen of France
    b. Fulfill one of the following conditions:
    - Be enrolled in a university graduate program
    - Hold a doctorate degree when the program goes into effect which must have been received within the past 6 years*
    c. Candidate must receive acceptance from their host researchers in advance
    d. Candidate must be eager to become a researcher in the future
  • Terms of Award:
    a. Round-trip air ticket b. Maintenance allowance: 534,000 Y (≒4100 €)
    c. Overseas travel insurance
    d. Research-related expenses at the host institution: 158,500 Y (≒1200 €)
  • How to Apply: Application should be addressed to CNRS (deadline: November for next year to go)

1-12 months

  • Purpose: To provide opportunities to do cooperative research under the guidance of your host at Japanese universities and other institutions.
  • Number of fellowships: 13 fellowships for France.
  • Duration of Program: 1-12 months.
  • Eligibility*:
    a. Be a citizen of EU, Switzerland, Norway, Russia, the US or Canada
    b. Fulfill one of the following conditions:
    - Hold a doctorate at the time the Fellowship goes into effect, which must have been received within the past 6 years (on or after 2 April 2010 for FY2016 Fellowship)
    - Be enrolled in a doctoral course and be scheduled to receive a Ph.D. within 2 years
  • Terms of Award:
    a. Round-trip air ticket b. Maintenance allowance: 534,000 Y (≒4100 €)
    - PhD holders: 362,000 Y (≒2800 €)
    - Non-PhD holders: 200,000 Y (≒1500 €)
    c. Overseas travel insurance
    d. Setting-in allowance: 200,000 Y (≒1500 €) for more months 4 month of tenure
    e. Research support allowance for host researcher: Up to 70,000 Y (≒530 €) / month

2-24 months

  • Purpose: To provide opportunities to do cooperative research under the guidance of your host in leading research groups at Japanese universities and other institutions.
  • Number of fellowships: 15 fellowships for France.
  • Duration of Program: 12-24 months.
  • Eligibility*:
    a. Be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan (Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers in this manner)
    b. Fulfill one of the following conditions:
    - Hold a doctorate at the time the Fellowship goes into effect, which must have been received within the past 6 years
    - Be scheduled to receive a doctorate degree before the fellowship goes into effect
  • Terms of Award:
    a. Round-trip air ticket b. Monthly maintenance allowance: 362,000 Y (≒2800 €)
    c. Overseas travel insurance
    d. Setting-in allowance: 200,000 Y (≒1500 €)
    e. Grant-In-Aid for host researcher: Up to 1,500,000Y (≒11500 €) / year

« The Matsumae International Foundation » offre depuis 1977 des bourses de recherche pour les chercheurs non japonais, titulaires au minimum d'un doctorat, ayant moins de 49 ans, n'étant jamais allés au Japon et souhaitant y faire de la recherche.

Durée du séjour : de 3 mois à 6 mois (entre avril et mars de l'année suivante)
Date limite de dépôt du dossier : 31 juillet

« Vulcanus in Japan » est un programme qui offre à des étudiants européens la possibilité de passer une année au Japon : les premiers mois sont dédiés à l'apprentissage de la langue japonaise avant d'effectuer un stage en entreprise. Il s'agit d'une expérience unique qui permet à de jeunes européens de mieux appréhender la culture et le mode de vie japonais.

C'est un programme organisé par le « EU - Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation », centre basé à Bruxelles, et mis en place à la fois par la Commission Européenne (DG Entreprises et industrie) et le gouvernement japonais (le Ministère de l'économie, du commerce et de l'industrie). Il s'agit d'une organisation non-lucrative qui vise à améliorer les relations économiques et commerciales entre les entreprises européennes et japonaises, ainsi que la coopération entre celles-ci en facilitant les échanges d'expérience et de savoir-faire.
